About Me
I'm Amy.
I'm a writer, a musician, a mum, and now, somewhat unexpectedly... a celebrant.I didn't grow up wanting to be a celebrant. Honestly, I'm not sure I really knew it was something you could grow up wanting to be.I ended up here because two people I love trusted me with their wedding ceremony.I'd written things before. I've performed in front of people plenty of times. But this was different. I got to sit down with two people I knew and somehow find the words for them. Not just the big romantic stuff, either. The daft stories. The in-jokes. The tiny, ordinary things that probably don't mean very much to anybody else, but mean everything when they're yours. Then I stood up in front of a room full of people and told their story. They laughed. They cried. I very nearly cried. And I came away thinking... I want to do that again. So, that's where I am. Right at the beginning.I'm not an experienced celebrant with hundreds of ceremonies behind me, and I'm not going to pretend to be. I'm building a portfolio, learning as I go, and hoping to complete formal celebrant training when I'm able to.What I do have is years of writing and performing, a slightly ridiculous love of words, and a habit of noticing the little things about people.I don't think love lives exclusively in grand gestures. It's in knowing how somebody takes their tea. It's the stupid joke you've been making for twelve years. It's sitting beside someone when there's nothing useful left to say. It's hearing the first few seconds of a song and immediately looking across the room for one particular person. That's the stuff I'm interested in.I want to write ceremonies where you recognise yourselves. Where your friends are already laughing before I've quite reached the punchline because they know exactly which story I'm about to tell.I want the beautiful bits, obviously. But I want the weird bits too.Mostly, I want it to feel like you.So this is me, figuring out where this might go. And I have to admit...I'm really rather excited about it.
So... want to let me tell your story?
Here's where you might come in.While I'm building up my portfolio, and quietly squirrelling away the frankly eye-watering cost of formal celebrant training, I'd really like to find a few lovely humans who are willing to take a chance on someone new.For now, I'm offering a small number of ceremonies for expenses only. We'll meet up, have a coffee, have lunch, go for a walk, whatever you like, and I'll basically get you to tell me about yourselves.I'll ask questions. I'll get nosy. I'll scribble things down. I'll probably get distracted by something you mention in passing and go, "Wait, no, go back... tell me more about THAT."Then I'll go away, make sense of my notes and write your ceremony. On the day, I'll turn up, try not to cry before either of you do, and tell your story to the people you've chosen to share it with. All I'd ask in return is an honest testimonial afterwards and, if you're comfortable with it, some photos or little bits of video I can use to slowly build this thing. As for what sort of ceremony I'm looking for...Honestly? Whatever yours is.A huge wedding with everyone you've ever met? Go for it.Twelve people in a back garden? Equally lovely.Vow renewals. Commitment ceremonies. Handfastings in the woods. Village halls. Fancy hotels. Somewhere you probably had to send your guests a What3Words for.Two brides rolling a D20 to see who has to say their vows first?...you had me at D20 (YES PLEASE).You don't need chair covers, a champagne tower or a small fortune worth of flowers before you're allowed to have a ceremony that means something. You just need to be you.I don't really care what a wedding is supposed to look like.I want to know what yours looks like.
